Coach Norman needs Chris PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 18 March 2008

LONDON - `I never snubbed Chris Greatwich. In fact him and Phil Younghusband were the first two Fil-Foreign players I have recommended to the PFF to play for the national team in the Asian Challenge Cup’, RP national senior team coach Norman Fegidero told me during our long conversation.

He added that Filipino-British Chris Greatwich is a good player and the team needs him.

`He also has a great attitude and an easy person to deal with. If he comes three to two weeks before the tournament and commits until one week after the tourney then he is welcome’.

Coach Norman clarified that the people in Philippine Football Federation were talking to the Fil-Foreign players. `So from the start they were negotiating everything’, he added.

He also confirmed that Fil-Brit and Chelsea reserve Phil Younghusband is sure to come. He is set to join the squad on April 27.

Coach Norman also said that he is not against Fil-Foreign players. He agrees that they are more technically advanced and they have better experience compared to our local players.

He is even considering Phils’ elder brother James who is right now in the Philippines pursuing his modeling career.

However, coach Norman wants commitment from him also.

He also revealed that the PFF is negotiating with another Filipino-British player James Hall of Everton. Nineteen-year-old James Hall is from Scotland and has a Filipina mother.

He signed up for Everton in 2006 but was sidelined with a knee injury the entire season.

He is now back in the reserves and is being described by the Everton website as a very skillful midfielder who is very comfortable with the ball.

The PFF is also getting Filipino American Henry Brauner. He is scheduled to arrive in the middle of April.

After my chat with coach Norman I checked with Chris Greatwich and he confirmed that he is talking with the PFF people now and he promised to give me a call if he could play for the Azkals.

Norman also revealed that he felt honoured after he was appointed as coach of the Azkals but he said that it is very difficult to get players because RP has no official league.

He said he could not see how the players play unless he conducted a tryout.

He also added that he just signed up as the national team coach for the ACC tournament only because he has to finish his Education degree by October.

He has nine units more left and he needs time for his studies. He also has a job as a coach of the West Negros University in Bacolod.

However, he is committed to the Azkals and the PFF has promised him that he will remain as coach until they do not want him anymore.

Coach Norman also recognizes that the current PFF is still a new administration and the organization is still not perfect. `Communication sometimes is not good. So we just have to be patient’, he said.

He also confirmed that he brought some of his players from West Negros University to Manila only for tryouts but most of them did not make it to the national training pool. `In fact only two of them, veteran defender defender Joel Ballo-allo and midfielder Robert Canedo made it to the training pool’, he said.

But his urgent concern now is for the PFF and the Philippine Sports Commission to release the budget for the allowances of the team.

He said the PFF and PSC are now processing the money for the allowances but until now we are still waiting. `We could not force the players to work hard if we could not give them something. We have to take care good care of them’, said the 1991 South East Asian Games hero. Official training camp will start Monday after the Holy week.

So there you are readers. You read it only here at Pinoysoccer.com. I am writing another story about the interview. It will be posted in the feature section.

BRAZIL vs. SWEDEN

I already have a ticket for the Brazil vs. Sweden match on March 26 at the Emirates stadium. I will write about the match next column.

By the way MikeH, I have already mailed your England jersey via Royal Mail on registered mail. Watch out for it. It will take around three weeks to arrive. GOD BLESS

Dani, if he is that good why does he only practice 3 days a week? The premier league academies have practices everyday, and if he wants to play in the Bundesliga, then he should practice more. A bundesliga team wont sign a player who only practice 3 days a week. I dont think he is something special. Besides, Phil Y. isnt an academy player, he is a reserve player which is higher than Marks level. 2nd division youth league isnt good enough. I myself have played the highest youth level in Norway, and i have played against players who are now professional players. Mark has more to learn, and he is most probably not good enough for the MENS team yet. Maybe he can try out for the U21.

We are in contact w/ J. TUMANANS CLUB MANAGER ( Mr. KUHN ).
He said: "JEFFREY is far away to be NATIONAL PLAYER OF GERMANY, BUT WE SUPPORT THE IDEA THAT JEFFREY POSSIBLE CAN PLAY FOR PHILIPPINE NT IN NEAR FUTURE. WE WILL DISCUSS IT WITH Mr. TUMANAN, BUT FACT will be also that our club VELBERT needs a COMPENSATION IF JEFFREY will be away for around 2 weeks!"

BTW: MARK DRINKUTH is in FOCUS of BUNDESLIGA CLUBS, BUT he has also a VERY HIGH OPPOTUNITY, to play NEXT SEASON 2nd DIVISON A-YOUTH BUNDESLIGA by BV Düsseldorf !
CFCIA don´t think that this is much lower ranked as CHELSEA ACADAMEY or FC EVERTON or PORTSMOUTH ACADEMY, so MARK would be inline w/ his PERFORMANCE in comparison w/ other Filipino NTps ( IF EVERYTHING is RUNNING FINE ).
2nd DIVISION BUNDESLIGA is very HIGH STANDARD.

Dani, Tunaman is still young, and he has his future ahead, he can still for the german national team, and maybe he wont give up that chance yet. Anyways, since you paul, are the _official_ consultant of the PFF, why dont you do something rather than posting on internet? And yeah, no one will believe the amazing stories you guys come up with. As for Mark, so what if he trains 3 times a week? Filipinos do that as well, i used to train 5 times a week in norway, so whats special with Mark?

red devil, yes its a shame that espnstar isnt showing the super sunday doubleheader. as a man u fan, like u, i would love to see my team beat the crap out of liverpool and gain some more cushion at the top. i'd like a man utd win complemented by a chelsea-arsenal draw or chelsea win. anyway, about the coverage, the PFF can lobby for that coverage just like what they did during the Asean qualifiers in Bacolod. Perhaps, they can tap studio 23, which is, believe or not, airing the UAAP football games. But then again, im keeping my fingers crossed and hope for the best. media is really important in promoting football. more so with television since TV is the most pervasive medium. but of course, print media is also effective.
jack, i say congratulations thank you to the spurs for holding chelsea to an exciting draw.

Those Fil Germans are interesting if you can believe where these sources came from. But to play for Leverkusen is a very big deal as this is a top club in Germany. I dont know if he would be willing to play for the Philippines. However, the PFF should try their best to contact him, maybe he has strong patriotic feelings for his motherland much like Greatwich and company.

I do hope their is some sort of coverage for the games in May. If Solar wont cover the games then the PFF should make strong representation with Channel 4 or 5 since they have a history of covering local sports events. I am not too ohappy with the way Solar Sports has done their business with regards to football. They really made viewers bleed during the World Cup. They dont seem interested in promoting the sport and once an audience is built then ask sponsors to come in. they would rather go with, you want to watch, you pay.

Anyways, speaking of lousy coverage, what about ESPNSTAR? I will rant at them again because they will NOT show the Premiership championship deciders this sunday. Its Liverpool vs man utd and chelsea vs arsenal. Its like this every year. they will give us our fill of delayed telecasts of english rugby, snooker and the X games. Anyway, I think jack is till grininng from ear to ear after Spurs came back from 2 goals down to draw with london rivals Chelsea. Hehehe, as a man utd fan , I say long live the Spurs!!

  Hi Jack,

I doubt that Norman really is interested to read infos on cebufa.org, even they are important training ideas to copy for filipino talented players.
The club of Jeffrey would be ready to give him free to play in future for the national team.
The problem of Jeffrey ( who did play for Bayer Leverkusen a while ago ) is that he has a filipino passport problem ( but may be it can be solved ).
Even he played for german selection teams, he can switch to a senioer national team. Through his injury ( which is healed well ) he has no chance anymore to play for german NT. So the way is free for AZKAL PNT.
Mark Drinkuth is a YOUTH PLAYER, but he trains 3 TIMES in a week and showed GOOD PERFORMANCES ( esp. vs BUNDESLIGA YOUTH CLUB MSV DUISBURG ).
FACT is that only very less homegrown Philippine NT players have the skills and records like him.

sky cable doesn't have solar sports.

i hope they show coverage of the games on the local channels, i remember they did, but the games were still caught better on solar sports. i remember the broadcast of the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers real well

i'll definitely find a way to watch though

Jeffrey Tunaman plays for the german U19 or U21, and i doubt he will trade that for playing for Philippines. And when it comes to Mark, who is he and how good is he? If he plays in a youth league then he still has a long way to go. And dont believe everything that has been written on that website. Theyre a bunch of frauds.

Great interview Jack. As expected, the National team is in good hands with Coach Norman. Lets just give them 100% support and be the proverbial 11th man on the pitch. lets hope more sponsors come in so the PFF can be more self sustaining and address some of these urgent money issues fast.

yes, jack. he forgot. indeed, unabia is from san carlos who is studying at wnu just like barotac-born bedic. u should see bedic play. he is good. when i saw him 3 years ago, i was really impressed.

  Juliano,

He mentioned Ballo-allo and Canedo as from WNU, but he mentioned Unabia as from San Carlos city and Bedic from Barotac. He did not mention Pasilan. That is why I said only two are from WNU in my story. Maybe he just forgot.

its good that u finally got his side, jack. pasinabo made it mikeh, along with pasilan and WNU players Ballo-allo, robert canedo, lemuel unabia and joven bedic.

So there we have it. It clears up a lot of things. He mentioned James Hall. I didnt think he was interested. Someone posted a while back that James Hall wasnt interested. But if thats wrong and he turns out to be interested, then thats good news. But it will turn out to be a question again if Everton wants to release him and for how long.

Did he mean that players like Pasinabo didnt make it??

And thanks, ill wait for the postman in 3 weeks. Hehehe
