LONDON - EVERY England fan is shouting the name of Jose Mourinho to replace flop Steve McClaren as England coach. The ex-Chelsea manager is in the headlines again, in fact he was the front page cover of The Sun tabloid, England's No.1 newspaper with a circulation of more than 200,000. `Come and get me England,' shouts the headline of The Sun. The Sun sent a reporter to Mourinho's Villa in Portugal and according to reporter Tom Wells, `The Special One' gave an enthusiastic thumbs-up when asked if he fancied managing the dismal English national team. The 44-year-old said that he ruled nothing out, and assured the reporter that if the English FA speaks to him then he might be interested to sign. FA CEO Brian Barwick is now busy looking for replacement for the fired McClaren. German legend Jurgen Klinsman, ex Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello and Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp are also favorites to land the job (Although Redknapp is being investigated by the police now for some football related irregularities.). Former England striker Allan Shearer is interested in the job but he has an outside chance. Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neil was also favored to replace McClaren but announced that he was not interested. England showed horrific display in the European Championships qualifying, losing to Croatia 2-3 in their last game at Wembley thus missing the bus to the finals in Austria and Switzerland next year. Mourinho is out of job right now, after he left Chelsea on the 20th of September this year. He left after he had a spat with Chelsea owner, Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich There has been no talks held yet between the English FA and Mourinho but if the Soho boys really would like a high profile manager then 'The Special One' is just waiting for a call. That of course if the FA is willing to pay his multi-million pounds salary. Mourinho will not come cheap. He was paid £4.2M when he moved to Chelsea in 2004. His salary was then raised to £5.2 the following year. If he gets an offer then he will demand a salary that would match former England manager Sven Goran Ericson's $4M annual salary. The recently fired Steve McClaren was getting £2.5M a year. The former high school coach is worth every penny that the FA would pay him. He has been a very successful manager in a very short period of time winning four league titles in a row. He won two consecutive league titles with Porto in Portugal and two with Chelsea. He also won the UEFA Cup title and the Champions League trophies for Porto. Aside from the four major trophies, Mourinho also won the Super Cup and Cup of Portugal for Porto, two Football League Cups and an FA Cup for Chelsea plus the FA Community Shields. That's an amazing 12 trophies in top flight football since becoming a first team manager with Benfica in 2000. And he is only four years older than me. No wonder they call him `The Special One'. England fans will be ecstatic if Mourinho gets the job. After missing the European Cup in Austria and Switzerland next year, the Three Lions will start their preparation for the 2010 World Cup soon. Getting the England players play for him will be easy. Who among the current English stars would not like to play for a very good coach? Just ask John Terry, Frank Lampard and Joe Cole. Picking the right players will not be difficult for Mourinho. England is loaded with talents. The only question is on how to use these talents. David Beckham should be part of his plans. Becks has at least two more good years left in his football legs. And with Becks and Jose in the England team, the World Cup will be within reach. BUILD RP FOOTBALL NOW The PFF election was controversial. Jose Marie Martinez is now the new presdent. Let's give this guy a chance to rule. He promised to resign after six months if he does not fulfill his campaign promises. This is the last time I will mention the PFF election in this column. Let's move on. The Philippines has so much to do to catch up with the rest of the world. Let's start building RP football now. Let us follow the lead of Thailand. Our neighbor is now unreachable in it's football development. The exiled former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is leading the football revolution in that country. We just pray and hope also that a Filipino billionaire will open his eyes and spend his money to lead our own football revolution. GOD BLESS Email the author

Hi jack.thanks for the reply on my comments on your previous article.anyway,if u ask me about mourinho,im glad he didnt get the job as England coach.yup hes got good credentials but it would take 3 cup of tea to explain my side.So u are in Spurs territory.Im here in Winchester,About 15 minutes from southampton and 40 minutes from Portsmouth. But im one of the neutrals here.i rather support mu local sunday league team than any of those mercenaries playing in the premiership. You would probably recognise me if we meet as i have played loads of times against your Don bosco boys home team before, ive played for San Roque,USC-BS,USJRHS and college.give me a holler if u have time 07862276530

Hi Jack, Good stuff, as usual, that you put on the table. First thing, the Mourinho possibility. I think England hasnt done bad with their experiment with a foreign coach. For all their hollers about Ericsson and his off field antics, he has been a lot more successfull than other English managers (having qualified for all the major tournaments while he was in charge). All the names brought up are all potentially good managers but at the end of the day you will need experience (and I mean tons of it) for that impossible England job. I dont think there is a more pressure filled managerial job in the world. That may be the downside for Mourinho, who at 44 has never coached a national side before. Its just that its the right high profile job that the Special One is always looking out for. I dont think Shearer should even be considered, they should have already learned their lessons from former players taking over when they still lack experience (i.e. Keegan and Hoddle). Shearer hasnt even managed a premiership side yet. Anyway, Klinsman is also an intriguing possibility, having coached the German side to success and his long tenure at your Spurs team will give him an excellent feel for the English game and which parts of that you can bring to the international arena to be successful. On the PFF development, I heard that Martinez and Formoso have burried the hatchet with Martinez "reaching out" to Ed and his supporters. Its a good gesture on the part of both these guys as they show that they want to move forward. At least, the new issue for football wont be an election dispute. That would definitely send the wrong signals. I just hope they keep the peace long enough for work to be done. Anyway, your right, one election wont change our situation but definitely its a first step. Let's give them some breathing space and see what they can do. Regards, Reddevil

It was Jose Mourinho who himself "Special One" in a press conference. This is the whole sentence: "Please don't call me arrogant, but I'm European champion and I think I'm a special one" Then the media labeled him "Special One" after saying that seemingly obscure word. ---- About Philippine Football The new PFF president should consider hiring a foreign coach. An Asian coach will do since it's probably cheaper than getting a European.

Hi Jack, Oh, yeah I read about that "Chelsea Coach" incident from your previous column. I coudn't agree more on what you wrote. Well, anyway I'm just checking on the status of these guys, since the "buzz" eventually died out. Another side note... I was actually browsing YouTube and happen find a clip of a Phil Younghusband freekick featured as "Play of the Day" (not sure if it was ESPN or another sports channel)... Anyways, thanks for the info Jack and the articles as well. Keep on writing!! Ü

i find it intriguing, for a footballing nation like England to have to look towards a foreign land for it's next national team manager. aren't there any locals fit for the job? or perhaps this would be a better question - do national teams players respond better when coached by foreigners ? my world cup memory ain't exactly sharp but i do recall several nations winning it with foreign managers on the bench - brazil and the portuguese coach (sorry guys, i forgot the name) being the prime example. do foreign coaches bring an aura with them that the players don't see in locals ? is it an inferiority complex among players that nudges them to second guess local coaches and put foreign coaches on pedestals ? yucks, thats too many presumptions, but it does tickles the brain. as far as the PFF is concerned, lets give the new president the six months he gave himself to accomplish a lot of things, or the very least, to start improvements. after six months and nothing happens, then i hope he has the delikadesa to voluntarilty step down and call for a snap election. this also applies to his critics. i hope they remain silent and cooperate, or at least try not to sabotage martinez. after six months, and still nada, they can start firing their cannons.

briansalad, I have Phil's number. I heard he is injured. He is not even in Esbjerg first team. James was with Wimbedon. I have not been interested with them since that Chelsea coach abused me in one of the reserve game in Richmond. But if I have time I will try to find their whereabouts. Or maybe you can call their agents PR Asia.

Jose M, would definitely be a great boss for the England side. We all saw what he did with Porto and Chelsea. With the abundant english talents at his disposal(which 3-4 players he already mentored at Chelsea), I'm sure he'd be able to propel the English side to more acceptable results. They don't call him "The Special One" for nothing!! On a side note... Just a question Jack, do you have any updates on the Younghusband brothers? I used to be able to view their player profiles from Working FC(James) and Esbjerg fB(Phil) websites, but now I cant seem to find any of their profiles. I was just wondering if Phil is back on Chelsea reserves roster and if James is injured or something, or might have transferred to another club. Well, anyone who can provide an update would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!! Ü

W, Reddevil won the September contest, the August winner was Sophie. There was no winner for October because I was not around during that time. I have already sent the jersey to Reddevil in Bulacan but Sophie has not responded to my e-mails. The winner for November will be announced in my next column.

I'd be happy to see Mourinho man the English team. England needs someone who can deliver, and there is no questioning for me about whether Jose can deliver. and I'm again worried about ManU. Out of form against Bolton, and I was pretty nervous watching the match against Sporting. The deflection off of Tevez was lucky, but the freekick from Ronaldo was gold hehe, there's even a vid of that on youtube from the touchline, just inches away from the players and the spot where Ronaldo took it. hm, well, there's bigger local issues to sort out now aside from what happened at the PFF

TO 1PFA, If you insist that there was no justice in the PFF election then what will you do next? Sue Martinez? Have another election? Matinez could also insist that he won the election which is the fact. I do not think the PFF will have another budget for another election. We can have an endless argument on this issue. If this goes to court then the PFF will be just like our country, it will go down to the endless hole. The PFF has done very little for the provincial associations. When was the last time they have given a football to the associations? Why bother who is the president? Just continue your own football projects, seek your own sponsors, convince your own local leaders and spend your own money if you can. PFF has been a mess for a long time. Do not expect it to be repaired with a single election.

REAL UNITY will only be achieved if we apply FAIR PLAY and to all concerned. PFF by-laws Art13 #4 state: "The PFF President shall be elected by an absolute majority of the votes of the entire voting membership of the PFF Congress" The entire voting membership of the PFF Congress is 32 votes representing the 32 regular Provincial Football Associations (PFA) members of the PFF Congress. The absolute majority of 32 votes is 32/2=16 1=17 votes. During the PFF Pres. elections last Nov 24, 2007, attended by 29 out of 32 PFAs: Martinez got 15 votes, Formoso has 14 votes. As per bylaws, the PFF as of today, does not have a legitimate President. How will then the Phil Football community follow the leadership of a person who in the first place has been questioned? How will then the prospective sponsors react if all they hear are unresolved issues and conflicts? The solution is very simple: re convene the PFF Congress and let the body resolved the issue once and for all, whether to have another election or what have you. No other body or civil court can offer solution to this. It is provided for in the PFF bylaws.
