ImageSAO PAULO (AP) - Gremio's Argentine goalkeeper Sebastian Saja is sidelined with a shoulder injury for the rest of the year.

Saja will need to undergo minor surgery on his left shoulder, which he hurt in Gremio's 2-1 loss to Figueirense in the Brazilian league on Saturday, Gremio doctors said on Monday.

The goalkeeper is likely to miss at least three months and will not play again this year.

Saja scored Gremio's lone goal against Figueirense on Saturday with a penalty kick in the 39th minute, becoming the team's first goalkeeper to score in official matches.

The injury came in the beginning of the second half when he went for a ball crossed into Gremio's penalty area and was hit by an opponent.

Because Saja is playing for Gremio on a loan from San Lorenzo, the Brazilian club needs to wait for an authorization from the Argentine team before the surgery can be performed.

Gremio is seventh in the 20-team Brazilian league standings. The top four clubs will earn a spot in next year's Copa Libertadores, Latin America's most important club competition. Gremio lost this year's final to Argentina's Boca Juniors.
