THE most difficult part about being a member of this team is that there are so many 'down-and-out' requirements. One can be a great footballer and not qualify. You can read more about what it takes to be a participant at www.homelessworldcup.org. The tournament, this team, ... it's much more than the game.
Thank you to Ninong's Miguel Celdran and Bito Mantecon for NIKE PARK. Thanks for the donation, the footballs and for having them delivered to the venue in Bacolod. Thank you ABS-CBN Corporation: Chairman Gabby Lopez, VP Creative Robert Labayen, and all those who contributed to the ABS-CBN Homeless World Cup TV plug- Danie Sedilla-Cruz, Hancel Hernandez, Paolo Ramos, Jimmy Porca, Gelo Dayao and Chelly Coching.

WE were on a late bus back to Tuloy after the final training day at Nayon ng Kabataan.
We were talking about 'signals' that the Lord was giving. We were talking about feeling blessed by this project and we'd wonder aloud to each other on feelings that we had about doing things as God wanted. Then in one moment of silence, we looked out the window to see a new billboard, one that none of us had seen before. It said, 'Follow me - God'. We looked at each other and smiled a smile of reassurance. Galing!

IN these next 30 days, the coaching staff will be focusing on the Final Eight (8) players, who are now busy fixing their schedules and classes and making sure things will be alright for the next month. They are leaving for Bacolod in the weekend and will be away till the end of the month. Soon after their return, they take off for Melbourne.
Kublai's Rock launched their fund raiser with a party last October 24. This marked the start of their fund raising activity...Kub's manager/part owner Poch Camahort set up a donation box for the team.

WHEN friends ask how we expect the team to do in actual competition, the answer we give them is that among the 56 participating countries, we're probably the only one that doesn't list football as one of our top national sports. The players are working as hard as they can and management is doing what it can to help the team win whether or not they actually 'win' games. This is the road we're on.

THE goodness and generosity that surrounds the Philippine Seleksyon to the 2008 Melbourne, Homeless World Cup continues as Gatorade, Philippines emailed to say that the team will receive additional items like bags, caps, t-shirts and plenty more Gatorade's next week. Thank you very much to Maricelle, Angel and Paul of Gato, who stay in touch and make sure we have what's required.

BY 5:00am of Tuesday, the players were set to go. Their very first 'live' TV appearance was on simulcast in three 'free' TV networks: One Morning on channels 4, 9 and 13 and thank you Gina Borinaga for that.
With everything considered and looking quite 'RP' in their white Accel uniforms, the players did well in their 10-minute-TV segment. The players spoke about the opportunity that football has given them; about how one should never give up on life no matter how low and tough. It's nice listening to them because one feels the sincerity. We see in them how football can indeed change lives......even for a while... even in the Philippines. This team is a proof of life and a proof of football.

BY 10am, the team had climbed the Gawad Kalinga stage and introduced itself to thousands of kids, parents and GK volunteers. The RP Seleksyon to the Homeless World Cup was presented on stage and as each gave his/her name and age over the microphone, one could sense both nervousness and pride in their voices. The stage presentation at the Gawad Kalinga Expo Anniversary was a new experience for each.
YES, IMAGINE THIS ONE! ----- Coaches Hans Smit, Jess Landagan and Marlon Maro, Jeepney mag publisher Bill Shaw, and ABS-CBN TV Host Atom Araullo got into the hard court with the RP Seleksyon to the delight of camera men from ABS-CBN 2 and IBC-13. ABS-CBN was there to take footage for their 'Kalye' TV program that Atom hosts while IBC shot footage for their tri-network simulcast of One Morning over channels 4, 9 and 13 on Tueday, the 14th. For over 30-minutes, pinoy football legends Hans Smit, Jess Landagan and Marlon Maro went toe to toe against the Seleksyon. It made for great TV footage, memories for the players, and huffing and puffing moments for the 'RP Seniors'.

INDESCRIBABLE!
The RP Selection to the Homeless World Cup found its story in Page 1 of the Philippine Daily Inquirer last Sunday...we was speechless....as in 'We'. The HWC was 'front-paged' and we could only stare and read and re-read all day. Thanks to Elvira Mata for writing it as it is...and then some. To add height to the Sunday high, Krista Montealegre, sportswriter for The Manila Times came out with her piece on the team too.
On Monday, Business Mirror sports columnist and blogger Rick Olivares had his say in an aptly titled piece, 'The Home Team'. Rick also posted the video he took on you-tube, which can now be seen on the team's two partner websites: pinoysoccer.com and pffmanila.org.

WE took the RP Selection to an LRT/MRT tour of Metro Manila in the middle of rain and wind from passing typhoon Pablo, and Manila Times sports writer Krista Montealegre was game enough to join us all the way.
The Selection displayed their brand new white 'Accel' RP uniforms.
They were even interviewed and cheered on by random folk lining up for trains, jeepneys and buses. It was a good experience for them. There was an Argentine who spoke to them for several minutes at the Araneta Center.
