1st Mizuno Futsal Corporate CupMANILA, Philippines - The Mizuno Futsal Corporate Cup is one example of how Futsal, also known as indoor football, is quickly snowballing in popularity, now penetrating the corporate market as a team building sport. Its simple, fast paced, qualities, and accessibility (Futsal is played in basketball courts) make it a viable substitute for basketball especially for those who do not have the advantage of height.

The Mizuno Futsal Corporate Cup, was a pilot project of Mizuno, the first of its kind. Targeting companies, enabling young professionals to develop camaraderie and mutual support through wins or losses. Participating teams were as follows; ACCENTURE FC led by Paul Rafael, HSBC 1 & 2 led by Mitch Pascua & Christian Schuster, CITIGROUP FC led by Daniel Yaptangco, S.R. METALS headed by Miko Gutierrez, TDK FUJITSU led by Satoshi Tomita, REAL SOLUTIONS led by Dominic Samson, IRRI FC led by Rhulyx Mendoza, GLOBE TELECOM, and OGILVY. Mizuno salutes them all for their skill, cooperation, and above all their exemplary display of sportsmanship, beginners and veterans alike.

Our warmest congratulations to all the winners!

CHAMPION S.R. METALS INC.
1ST RUNNER UP GLOBE TELECOM
2ND RUNNER UP REAL SOLUSIONS
MVP Anto Gonzales of S.R. METALS INC.

Naturally, the first companies that jumped at the opportunity were those belonging to football players or that had football athletes employed. But there were also those new to the game and looking to put their skills to the test, to experience a real Futsal tournament. The Mizuno Futsal Corporate Cup delivered just that. If you played well in this corporate cup you could play anywhere. It was tough, cutthroat mingled with moments of brilliant back to back action.

Emotions were stirred right from kickoff when rookies HSBC 1 went up against the veterans of REAL SOLUTIONS. At one point, even, HSBC fielded five brave gals against the towering REAL SOLUTIONS booters. The reds gave the blues a worthy fight though in the end the vastly seasoned blues dominated. Amidst a flurry of cheers and protests, all part and parcel of the drama of football, games panned out and ran more smoothly. There were brave stands, surprising overthrows, and as the Corporate Cup progressed the teams were increasingly matched.

Four teams emerged at the semis; REAL SOLUSIONS vs. SR METALS INC. and GLOBE TELECOM vs. TDK FUJITSU. SR METALS INC. and GLOBE TELECOM won their respective matches and proceeded to battle it out in the finals. REAL SOLUTIONS and TDK FUJITSU faced each other in a penalty showdown for third place where the former emerged victorious. In the finals match, the underdogs SR METALS beat out GLOBE TELECOM for the champion cup.

So thus was the Mizuno Futsal Corporate Cup concluded, equal parts draining and exhilarating but always rewarding.

If you're out of shape has-beens(playing the whole day without subs), except for Mr Gonzalez, you'd really be underdogs as compared to the lineups of Globe and Real Solutions.

SR METALS were considered underdogs? I seriously doubt that.
