Football shoes and more from the U.S. to San Roque PDF Print E-mail

ImageBOB FALLON, Michigan-based American and a new member of the Kiwanis Club of Cebu, sent two big boxes of football gear for our Kiwanis club through PDG Mike del Gallego for the San Roque Football Club. Slightly used football shoes and footballs and brand new towels were among the goodies in the boxes. During his Christmas vacation in Cebu, Bob brought his two football-playing daughters to San Roque. They were shocked to see that some of the kids had no shoes. This prompted the Fallon family to gather used football gear - and to buy towels for the girls - and send it for San Roque.

To receive the items in behalf of San Roque FC were Jose Antonio Trebol and Eliazar Toledo. PDG Mike gave a sentimental introduction of the football club - many years ago, he had been asked by the parish priest to convert the vacant lot into a football field. The area has many out-of-school youth and other kids were drawn to the field and became an excellent players. Some obtained scholarships in exclusive schools because of their skills. This even as many of them had played barefooted as kids - their parents were too poor to buy their children decent sports or football shoes.

Yet, despite their lack of shoes, these kids had gone on to beat the players of  exclusive schools.

Today hundreds of girls and boys as young as six years old play and practice in the San Roque football field. Toledo shared that he belongs to the second generation of football players from San Roque. He is now the coach of the team of Cebu International School. By continuing to support San Roque he gives back to the community what it gave him.

The Kiwanians asked about the difference between soccer, football and American football. Basically, football is the term used worldwide for the sport that in the USA is known as soccer. In American football, hands are allowed in comparison to football (or soccer) where only the goalkeeper is allowed to use his hands.

Rommel Cuizon, commonly known for his subname "Chaoko" He played for Don Bosco, grew up in Don Bosco Boys Home...

He is a former player of HIROSHI F.C and lately F.C Inter Cebu before moving out on his current team Queen City United.

His son "Astig" (by subname) is the oldest together with his 2 baby sisters. They lived together with his wife somewhere in Guadalupe particularly on H. Labra St.

Astig, an 8 year old kid who plays for Hiroshi F.C, Cardex and currently POMEROY F.C had died last night June 4,2008.

Unfortunate kid left his Papa crying after he strangled himself on a mini rope (the one that is usually used on soccer shorts for tighting)(just like a shoe lace)...

He made a joke of coking himself then slipped and fell down with the laces got stuck on a corner of one side. He immediately passed out. When his papa (Chaoko) got home, he saw his son (Astig) on a violet color condition known for the lack of oxygen on the body.

Directly drove to seek help at the hospital. 15mins Astig struggles for his life but failed to see tommorow.

He is now placed at their home (by now or tommorow)...

I (We) send our deepest prayers that can make him and his family surpass the incident. Condolence to Astig. May his soul be in heaven.

Whoever wanted to give donations and help our feloow football friend you can contact him with this number 09198149966....

He is in need of our assistance. whatever you may give will be appreciated. thank you. may this post be known and recognized all through out Cebu and the rest of football players within.
