College United hands Team Cebu City first loss |

CEBU CITY (SunStar) - College United kept its bid for a semifinal slot alive with a 1-0 win over Team Cebu City in the Men’s Open Group A of the 8th Cebu Interclub Football Tournament at the University of San Carlos-Technological Center.
College United is now third in the group with four points in three games, while Team Cebu City is second with six points.
However, College United, a selection of players from the University of San Carlos, University of Southern Philippines and University of Cebu, has the brighter chance to move to the final four as it faces Nasipit today, while TCC takes on the No. 1 team, QCU.
Nasipit lost 0-12 to Queen City in their third game last Wednesday.
In yesterday’s game, Doods Ramos ended the scoring impasse in the 58th minute for the lone goal of the match and College United’s first win.
Third win
On the other hand, Queen City got its third win after a 4-1 rout of San Roque Royal United.
Queen City got the lead in the 27th before their keeper misjudged his approach on the ball in the 44th and the ball lobbed over him for an easy equalizer for SRRU.
Julius Acre got the go ahead goal in the second half, while Jan Michael ABellana and Joe Sacil got past the SRRU defense for the final count.
Meanwhile, Group B leader Pinoysoccer.com, which took a rest yesterday, will take on Inter Cebu in the frst game today.
Inter Cebu was playing sister squad Inter Lapu-Lapu in the final game yesterday and was expected to beat Lapu-Lapu, which lost its first two games by 20 and 17 goals, respectively.
In the 15-Under category, the visiting Collegio de Sta. Rita blanked FC Inter Lapu-Lapu 3-0, Abellana held Don Bosco Technology Center scoreless, 2-0, and FC Inter Cebu won against Sacred Heart Jesuits, 5-3.
In the 12-Under category, Springdale crushed Collegio de Sta Rita, 3-0 while FC Inter Cebu defeated Ramika, 2-0.
