ImageBERLIN (AFP) - Around 120,000 of the lowest-priced tickets for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa will be given away to allow people from the country's lower classes to watch, organisers announced Friday.

Tumi Makgabo, the spokesperson of the South Africa 2010 Local Organising Committee (SALOC) made the announcement at Berlin's travel trade fair with the cost of the free tickets set to be met by the event's sponsors.

And as many tickets as possible will be made available to South Africans wanting to see the event in their home country, said Makgabo.

"It is a question of where and how we sell them," she said.

"We must make sure the tickets go to the right people."

It is still unclear when ticket sales for the June 11-July 11 event in 2010 will go on sale.

"It should start in the second half of 2009," said Makgabo.

There are expected to be just under three million tickets available across the event's 10 stadiums.
